Technical Design Authority Form
What is Technical Design Authority?
The Technical Design Authority (TDA) is the forum at which all changes to technology tools and applications must be approved before any work is done, or any money spent in implementing the change. TDA helps technology ensure any applications we are introducing, or using, align with our technology policy, data compliance policy and can be supported within our environment.
There are two distinct phases of TDA:
- Feasibility - where you have an idea or a problem that needs solving. You should come to the TDA with a good idea of your high level requirements, including a statement of the problem you are trying to solve. The TDA will guide you as to what approved solutions may currently exist and will explain next steps. Depending on the size and scope of the requirement a project will usually be required, following the RFU Project Framework. TDA approval will be required to move into the 'Design' phase
- Design - where the high level solution has been approved, but the finalised design need approving. The TDA will need to see documentation on how the solution will be built to ensure that what is going to be implemented is in line with what was approved at the first stage of TDA (your TDA representative can guide you on this). Approval will be needed at TDA to ensure a project can be moved into the 'Build' phase.
Technical Design Assessment
Not all projects will require full TDA please use the assessment to determine if you should raise a TDA request
- Does this request potentially involve any new technology or any change to existing technology – e.g. a new application, new functionality in an existing application, new functionality being provided by a third party, or a third party providing a technical service on your behalf?
Or
- Does this request involve the collection, processing or storage of data confidential or restricted data, especially PII?
If you answer YES to either question please complete a TDA request form
For any information on the TDA please speak to any of the group members, currently:
